(The event isn’t part of our fertility program though and isn’t the patient fertility education session, that is the start of being on our Fertility Program. This is just an information event, for those they may be interested in our program and to also provide some information to the public. )

For years Dr Andrew Orr has seen couples, single women, same sex couples and anyone requiring fertility help, walk through his door, emotionally exhausted, desperate and at breaking point. The problem for many of these people is that they have not been investigated properly by everyone they have seen, both medically and holistically. Worse still some of the people are already at a point of giving up, believing they have done everything possible, when in fact they haven’t. The sad fact is that some people may have already given up thinking they did everything, when actual fact they may not have. It is so sad when Dr Andrew Orr hears stories like this is why we are holding this night to help couples, single women and same sex couples, get the right information and help them to be properly diagnosed or investigated.

About Dr Andrew Orr’s Highly Successful Fertility Program

_DSC1580

The Shen Therapies Reproductive Medicine Fertility Program is run by Dr Andrew Orr, who has over 20 years experience in the treating Fertility and Gynaecological issues and hold dual qualifications in both western medicine and complementary medicine to bring people a true integrative approach to fertility issues. He has helped over 12,000 babies into the world via his highly successful Fertility Programme. There really aren’t many people that can say that and his qualification are also a one of a kind. There is really nobody else with his qualifications to date. His success has been documented nationwide in the media and he is known as “The Brisbane Baby Maker”

The Fertility Programme is very through. Many people don’t realise what goes on in the background before you even step through our door. Comprehensive questionnaires are sent out to people and medical reports, blood tests, medical investigations, surgical intervention (if needed) and everything that is needed for your reproductive and health history is chased up and checked so that people are diagnosed correctly.

Both men and women are assessed as fertility issues are not just related to females. Over 50% of fertility issues are related to make factors and many miscarriage issues are related to chromosomal factors relating to the male also. Dr Andrew Orr is always seeing many male issues are missed due to non compliance and assumptions. Biology 101 tells us it takes a sperm and an egg to make a baby, not just an egg. Everything for the couple, or anyone needing fertility treatment, is assessed properly and thoroughly before you even walk in the door.

Fertility treatments aren’t just about having Acupuncture or holistic medicine either. Couples are then assessed and treated on both a medical and complementary medicine level and a comprehensive report is written up with all the changes and investigations that you will need to get do. These recommendations are then constantly checked and followed up to ensure couples get all the investigations done and that all the requested changes are made. There is no stone left unturned.

The program encompasses dietary changes, addressing nutritional deficiencies, reducing stress, managing emotions, enhancing immunity and improving sperm and egg quality. We also address known causes of infertility including Endometriosis, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and any other pelvic pathology that may be causing fertility issues. Every test or investigation that needs to be done is done and thoroughly looked over.

The program begins with the Fertility Education Session, lasting 3 hours and conducted once per month, or as needed, depending on numbers. These Fertility Education Sessions are conducted to small groups of clients and delivered by myself so that every couple is educated on the changes and investigation that will need to increase their chances of having a baby.

Attendance at a Fertility Education Session is compulsory for singles/couples on the program. At the sessions, clients receive a full report based on previously completed questionnaires and test results, as well as crucial herbs and supplements to begin the journey to conception. Soon after the education session, clients attend a 1 on 1 consult with me to receive additional information and recommendations as well as a treatment plan moving forward.

Treatments on the Shen Therapies Reproductive Medicine fertility Program also involves fortnightly acupuncture appointments for both men and women and the use of individual tailored herbs, herbs from the ConceptShen fertility range and vitamins according to the individual’s holistic diagnosis and their medical diagnosis as well. We have specially trained registered acupuncturists that are also part of the Shen Therapies Reproductive Medicine team

Sex Around The Time of Embryo Transfer Increases The Likelihood of Successful Early Embryo Implantation and Development.

One of the things that Dr Andrew Orr promotes is that regular sex is so important for our fertility patients, on many levels. Sometimes the obvious eludes some people though

One of the things we see quite regularly is that couples doing Assisted Reproduction (ART) are abstaining from sex fearing it will affect their chances of conceiving. Actually the opposite is true. By not having sex during ART cycles (IUI, IVF etc) you are affecting your chances of conception.

Dr Andrew Orr has spoken about the importance of sex and orgasm assisting implantation in other posts and there is so much medical research to back this up

Let ask the question “If you were trying naturally, would you stop having sex for fear that conception has taken place?”

Then why would you stop having sex around an ART cycle?

Let’s face the facts, implantation takes place in the uterus, and not the vagina, and no man is that well endowed to even penetrate the cervix, so…. Let’s get a grip here

The question to ask is “What does an embryo feed off and need to successfully implant?”

The answer is blood!

Think of a tick borrowing into skin to feed off its host.

How do you get blood flow into the uterine lining?

The answer is that sex and climax stimulate blood flow to the lining to assist implantation and also prepare the lining for implantation!

Nature has given us all the tools for healthy conception to take place, and yet many of us just aren’t using them.

This article shows that sperm are also beneficial in assisting implantation and exposure to semen around the time of embryo transfer increases the likelihood of successful early embryo implantation and development.

http://humrep.oxfordjournals.org/content/15/12/2653.full

Don’t forget that regular sex during this time not only helps assist implantation, but it also helps with the bonding process and physical connection process during this stressful time. Many couples split up because of losing this connection during the ART process and sex is a way of keeping that physical and emotional connection. Sex also tells your body you are also preparing to conceive on another level too.

For those doing IVF etc, next time you are doing an ART cycle maybe it is time to start doing things the way nature intended to give you that boost you so desperately are needing. Go get busy people

Lastly, don’t forget that we have specialized formulas to help with implantation too.

Sperm Help Trigger Ovulation

sperm meeting an egg

Sperm help to trigger ovulation and also send signals to the woman that she is ready to conceive

Semen isn’t just vehicle for carrying sperm – it also plays a crucial role in triggering ovulation, according to a new study.

Scientists have discovered the protein in the sexual fluid acts as a hormonal signal on the female brain.

This triggers the release of other hormones that signal the ovaries to release an egg.
The international team led by Gregg Adams at the University of Saskatchewan, said they found this protein in a variety of mammals from llamas to rabbits to humans. They say this implies it plays an important role in reproduction in all mammals.

Male mammals have accessory sex glands that contribute seminal fluid to semen, but the role of this fluid and the glands that produce it are not well understood.

‘From the results of our research, we now know that these glands produce large amounts of a protein that has a direct effect on the female,’ Professor Adams said.

The protein, which was dubbed the ‘ovulation-inducing factor’ (OIF), works through the hypothalamus of the female brain. This part of the brain links the nervous system to the endocrine system (a system of glands that secrete hormones into the blood stream) via the pituitary gland.

‘The idea that a substance in mammalian semen has a direct effect on the female brain is a new one,’ Adams said.

The scientists discovered it is the same molecule that regulates the growth, maintenance, and survival of nerve cells.

For this latest study, the team looked at two species: llamas and cattle. Llamas are ‘induced ovulators,’ that is, they ovulate only when they have been inseminated. Cows – and humans – are ‘spontaneous ovulators,’ meaning that a regular buildup of hormones stimulates the release of an egg.

Using a variety of techniques, the researchers found OIF present in semen samples taken from both animals.

However, while injecting the llama with this protein caused them to ovulate, the same effect wasn’t seen in cattle.

But while the molecule doesn’t appear to induce ovulation in spontaneous ovulators, it did affect fertility in different ways. The protein was found to effect the timing of when cattle developed the fluid-filled sacs in the ovary which carry the eggs. It also promoted the development of a temporary endocrine structure needed to sustain pregnancy.

‘This latest finding broadens our understanding of the mechanisms that regulate ovulation and raises some intriguing questions about fertility,’ Adams said.

The team said further research was now needed to see what role it could play in human fertility. For instance, they theorised that men with high concentrations of the OIF could potentially be more fertile.

The study appears in the latest issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

This is why it is important for couples trying to conceive to still maintain a regular sex life, even if doing IVF. It is all about letting the body know you are trying to conceive, rather then actually shutting down the whole process by not having sex. Studies like these show the importance of things that happen at the basic levels of conception and how it affects the brain and the bodies capacity to not only stimulate ovulation, but also its capacity to be ready to conceive.

Our comprehensive multidmodality Fertility Program is designed to prepare couples’ bodies and minds so that they are in the best possible condition to create new life.

The Statistics

The following statistics are a review of seven previous studies on acupuncture and fertility:

  • Acupuncture increases the chances of conceiving via IVF by 65%
  • Acupuncture increases the chances of maintaining a pregnancy by 87%
  • Acupuncture increases the rate of maintaining a pregnancy to full gestation by 91%
  • Published in the British Medical Journal 2008

In Australia, women generally pay about $7000 out of pocket for IVF treatment.

Many couples turn to Assisted Reproduction Treatments such as IVF before investigating other less expensive and far less invasive options.
